The Election Commission of India has announced that first-level verification of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verified paper audit trails (VVPATs) will begin on Monday.
The Election Commission of India has scheduled the first-level verification of all EVMs and VVPATs to start on Monday. This step is part of the pre‑election audit process.
The first-level check involves inspecting the machines for physical integrity, ensuring that the software is up to date and that the VVPAT printers are functioning correctly. Technicians will also verify that the machines are properly configured for the upcoming polls.
The verification will be carried out across all polling stations in the country, with teams dispatched to each state and union territory. The Commission aims to complete the process before the finalization of the voter lists.
Officials say the checks are a routine measure to guarantee the reliability of the electronic voting system and to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
