Election Commission pushes back claim and objection deadlines for Delhi, Maharashtra SIR

The Election Commission of India issued a fresh notification extending the time‑frame for submitting claims and objections pertaining to the Statewise Indication of Results (SIR) for both Delhi and Maharashtra. The revised schedule, outlined in the official release, replaces the earlier deadline that had been in force since the start of the SIR exercise.

Claims and objections are procedural tools that allow political parties and candidates to contest provisional SIR figures before they are finalised. By filing a claim, a party can point out alleged counting errors, while an objection can raise concerns over the eligibility of a candidate or the validity of a vote.

The commission said the extension is intended to give stakeholders adequate time to examine the provisional data, prepare supporting documents, and ensure that any grievances are addressed before the final results are declared. This move comes as the electoral calendar tightens ahead of the upcoming state assembly polls.

Election officials have urged all concerned parties to adhere to the new timelines and submit their filings through the designated online portal, emphasizing that any further delays could affect the certification of the final results.
