The Election Commission of India has updated Form 6 for voter registration to include parents' SIR (Standard Identification Record) details, aiming to improve verification and reduce duplicate registrations.

The Election Commission of India (EC) has introduced a change to Form 6, the new voter registration application, by adding a section for parents' Standard Identification Record (SIR) details. The SIR is a unique identifier issued by the government to each citizen, used for various administrative purposes.

The addition is intended to strengthen the verification process during voter registration. By cross‑checking the parents' SIR numbers, the EC hopes to reduce instances of duplicate or fraudulent voter cards and to streamline the overall registration workflow.

The updated form will be available from the EC's official website and at all regional election offices. Applicants will need to provide the SIR numbers of both parents along with the usual personal and address details.

Officials say the move aligns with the EC's broader strategy to enhance the integrity of the electoral roll and to make the voter registration process more transparent and efficient.
