Cyber fraudsters in Jaipur’s Vaishali Nagar area threatened a 74‑year‑old with a digital arrest, coercing him into paying Rs 1.74 crore over ten days.

A 74‑year‑old resident of Jaipur was targeted by a group of cyber fraudsters operating in the Vaishali Nagar police‑station jurisdiction. The perpetrators approached the senior citizen over a period of about ten days, repeatedly warning him that failure to comply would result in a "digital arrest" – a fabricated legal action involving seizure of his electronic devices.

The fraudsters used the fear of arrest to extract money, demanding large sums each time and threatening to confiscate the victim’s assets if he did not pay. Over the course of the operation they succeeded in extracting a total of Rs 1.74 crore from the elderly man.

Local police have opened an investigation into the case, treating it as a serious cyber‑crime. Authorities are seeking to identify and apprehend the individuals behind the scheme, and have warned the public about similar tactics that exploit fear of digital legal action.

The incident underscores a growing trend of fraudsters leveraging misinformation about cyber‑law enforcement to prey on vulnerable citizens, particularly senior members of the community.
