Elderly Dies After Relief Package Falls From Helicopter in Bihar's Saran

A helicopter was dropping relief rations over flood‑affected areas in Saran district, Bihar, when a package fell onto an elderly man, causing his immediate death. The incident occurred while the aircraft was navigating low‑altitude routes to reach isolated villages. Local residents witnessed the package hit the ground and the man collapse before emergency services could intervene.

Bihar’s disaster management authorities have launched an inquiry into the accident, citing concerns over safety protocols for aerial delivery of aid. Officials say the helicopter was operating under the state government’s relief plan and that all standard procedures were reportedly followed.

The death has prompted calls from community leaders for a review of aerial drop methods, especially in densely populated or vulnerable zones. The state government has pledged to support the bereaved family and to ensure that future relief operations are conducted with enhanced safety measures.
