Police have filed a case against eight members of a right‑wing outfit after they allegedly assaulted a family at Sinhagad Fort in Pune over a dispute about a girl’s shorts.

Police said that a group of eight individuals associated with a right‑wing outfit confronted a family visiting Sinhagad Fort near Pune, questioning the attire of a teenage girl who was wearing shorts. The confrontation escalated, and the men allegedly assaulted the complainant, his wife and the girl, causing injuries before fleeing the scene.

The incident was reported to the Pune police, who recorded a formal FIR and noted that similar complaints have been received from other visitors who faced harassment at the historic fort. Authorities indicated that the attackers used abusive language before resorting to physical violence.

Investigators have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the eight accused. The police spokesperson emphasized that any act of intimidation or assault in public spaces, especially at heritage sites, will be pursued rigorously under the law.

The case adds to a growing concern over the misuse of moral policing by fringe groups in Maharashtra, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of public safety measures at tourist locations.
