A car carrying pilgrims returning from the Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Madhya Pradesh, was swept into a swollen drain during heavy rain, killing eight people, including three children.

A tragic incident occurred in Nalkheda, Madhya Pradesh, when a vehicle carrying devotees of the Baglamukhi Temple was engulfed by a rapidly rising drain during a downpour. The car, returning from the temple after a pilgrimage, was swept into the torrent, leaving no chance of escape for those inside.

Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving distress calls, but the force of the water had already claimed the lives of eight passengers. Among the deceased were three children, two women and three men, all identified as residents of Odisha who had traveled to the shrine for religious worship.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and to assess whether the drainage infrastructure was adequate for the heavy rainfall. Families of the victims have been notified, and the community has expressed grief over the loss of the pilgrims.

The incident underscores the hazards posed by sudden flooding in rural areas, especially during the monsoon season, and highlights the need for improved safety measures on roads adjacent to open drains.
