Eight dead as flash floods hit Nanded, Maharashtra amid record rains

Heavy monsoon rains in Maharashtra have caused flash floods in Nanded, killing eight people, while Mumbai recorded a 300 mm downpour, Chief Minister Fadnavis said.
Flash floods swept through Nanded district in Maharashtra on Tuesday, leaving eight people dead and several others stranded as water surged into homes and streets. The sudden rise in water levels was triggered by intense monsoon showers that began early in the day, overwhelming local drainage systems.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the death toll and highlighted that Mumbai, the state’s financial hub, received a cumulative rainfall of about 300 millimetres in the same period, marking one of the heaviest downpours of the season.
State disaster response teams, along with the National Disaster Response Force, were deployed to rescue residents, set up temporary shelters, and distribute relief supplies. Authorities have urged people in low‑lying areas to stay indoors and follow evacuation orders where issued.
The incident adds to a series of severe weather events across the state, as the monsoon season intensifies and climate experts warn of increasingly erratic rainfall patterns.
