The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its probe into a narcotics-linked hawala network operating in Mizoram and Manipur, freezing a total of 1,424 bank accounts.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped up its investigation into a suspected narco‑hawala network that is believed to be active in the northeastern states of Mizoram and Manipur. As part of the operation, the agency has frozen 1,424 bank accounts that are alleged to be linked to the money‑laundering activities of the network.\n\nThe frozen accounts span multiple financial institutions and are said to have been used to channel proceeds from illicit drug trade across state borders. By immobilising these accounts, the ED aims to disrupt the financial backbone of the network and prevent further movement of illicit funds.\n\nOfficials indicated that the action is part of a broader, coordinated effort to curb narcotics trafficking and associated money‑laundering in the region. Investigations remain ongoing, and the agency has said it will continue to pursue all leads to dismantle the network completely.
