The Election Commission will begin a fresh verification of 46.6 lakh voters removed from Andhra Pradesh's electoral roll following a Supplementary Electoral Roll controversy.

The Election Commission of India announced that from tomorrow it will commence a fresh verification of 46.6 lakh voters whose names were removed from the electoral roll in Andhra Pradesh, following a controversy over the Supplementary Electoral Roll (SIR).

The move comes after political parties raised concerns that the deletions may have been politically motivated, prompting the EC to order a re‑verification to ensure the accuracy of the voter list ahead of upcoming elections.

Officials said the verification will involve on‑ground checks by designated officers, and affected voters will be contacted to confirm their details. The process is expected to be completed before the next phase of electoral preparations.

The EC has emphasized that the exercise is routine and aimed at maintaining the integrity of the electoral roll, while urging citizens to cooperate.
