The Election Commission of India will commence a large‑scale voter registration drive across Uttar Pradesh on 12 November, aiming to boost the electoral roll ahead of upcoming polls.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that a comprehensive voter enrolment drive will be rolled out across Uttar Pradesh on 12 November. The operation is part of the commission's effort to ensure that eligible citizens are registered well before the next state and national elections.
Field teams equipped with portable registration kiosks will visit urban centres, towns and rural villages, offering on‑spot assistance for new voters and updating existing records. The ECI has earmarked additional staff and resources to handle the expected surge in applications.
Officials said the drive will focus on first‑time voters, women and marginalized communities, aiming to close gaps in the electoral roll. The commission will also run a parallel awareness campaign through local media and community outreach to encourage participation.
The initiative aligns with the ECI's broader mandate to strengthen democratic participation and reduce the number of unregistered eligible voters in the country's most populous state.
