The Election Commission said its post-Special Identity Register voter re-enrolment drive will not include West Bengal cases currently pending before appellate tribunals. The decision impacts the ongoing effort to refresh electoral rolls in the state.

The Election Commission announced that its post-SIR re-enrolment drive will exclude cases from West Bengal that are presently pending before appellate tribunals. The clarification came as part of the commission’s update on the nationwide exercise aimed at refreshing voter lists after the Special Identity Register drive.

The post-SIR re-enrolment exercise is intended to incorporate any changes that arose following the SIR verification process, ensuring that the electoral rolls remain accurate and up-to-date. Officials said the drive covers most states, but certain matters under judicial review are being kept out of the process.

For West Bengal, the exclusion means that any voter-related disputes currently under adjudication by the state’s appellate tribunals will not be addressed through this re-enrolment drive. The Election Commission stated that those cases will be dealt with separately once the tribunal proceedings conclude.
