The Election Commission has informed the High Court that the SIR roll has been freshly created and that a Goan family, though not present in the roll, was never deleted.
The Election Commission of India (EC) has filed a notice to the High Court stating that the SIR roll has been created de‑novo, meaning it was established from scratch.
In the same communication, the EC clarified that a family from Goa, which had been omitted from the roll, was never deleted from the records. The omission, the EC says, was a procedural oversight rather than an intentional removal.
The clarification comes amid concerns that the absence of the Goan family could affect their eligibility for certain electoral benefits. The EC has assured that all affected families will be notified and the roll will be updated accordingly.
The High Court is expected to review the EC’s submission and may schedule a hearing to address any further questions regarding the roll’s composition.
