The Election Commission has barred both rival factions of the Trinamool Congress from using the party's official symbol and name in the upcoming West Bengal assembly bypolls. The move aims to ensure a level playing field in the elections.
The Election Commission issued the order after reviewing complaints from both sides of the Trinamool Congress regarding the use of the party's symbol and name in the forthcoming assembly bypolls in West Bengal.
As per the directive, neither faction is permitted to display the party's official flower symbol or to refer to themselves as the Trinamool Congress during campaigning for the bypolls.
Consequently, the affected groups will have to choose alternative election symbols or contest as independent candidates in the upcoming polls.
The EC said the decision was taken to maintain fairness and prevent any undue advantage that could arise from the use of a recognized party symbol.
