DST conducts media workshop on glacial lake outburst flood risk mitigation

New Delhi – The Department of Science and Technology (DST) convened a media sensitisation workshop aimed at enhancing understanding of glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) risks and mitigation measures. Senior scientists and disaster‑management experts briefed journalists on the latest monitoring techniques, early‑warning systems, and community‑level preparedness strategies. Participants were encouraged to disseminate accurate information to the public, especially in vulnerable Himalayan regions where GLOF events pose a growing threat. The workshop underscores DST's commitment to integrating scientific research with public communication to reduce disaster impact. Officials said the initiative will be followed by a series of outreach programs across states prone to glacial lake hazards.
