A 48‑hour police drone operation in Madhya Pradesh detected about 67 quintals of illicit cannabis, valued at roughly ₹2.5 billion, leading to four arrests.

Police in Madhya Pradesh launched a two‑day drone‑based surveillance and search drive targeting suspected drug cultivation. The aerial operation, which lasted 48 hours, pinpointed fields where approximately 67 quintals of cannabis were being grown under the cover of chili and sugarcane crops.

Authorities estimate the seized marijuana to be worth about ₹2.5 billion. The concealment tactic involved intercropping the drug plants with legitimate vegetables and cash crops to evade detection from ground patrols.

During the raid, four individuals suspected of overseeing the plantation were taken into custody. Senior police officials said the successful use of drones marks a growing reliance on technology to combat narcotics cultivation in the state.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by law‑enforcement agencies in curbing illicit drug farms, especially in rural areas where traditional surveillance methods are limited.
