The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled a gold smuggling network and halted an illegal melting racket operating in Delhi and Kolkata, seizing large quantities of gold and arresting key suspects.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out a coordinated operation across Delhi and Kolkata, targeting a sophisticated gold smuggling and illegal melting ring that had been operating for months.
During the raid, authorities seized approximately 3.5 tonnes of gold in various forms, including bars, coins and jewelry, and arrested 12 individuals believed to be key members of the network.
A senior DRI officer said the bust disrupted a major supply chain that had been funneling smuggled gold into the domestic market and then melting it for resale.
The agency has announced that it will continue to monitor the supply chain and cooperate with local police to prevent future incidents.
