Doctors Warn Nepal Floodwater Could Threaten Bihar’s Food Safety

Heavy monsoon rains have caused the Kosi and other rivers in Nepal to swell, pushing floodwater across the border into Bihar's flood‑prone districts. The inundation has submerged large tracts of agricultural land and contaminated surface water used for irrigation.
Doctors from regional hospitals warn that the floodwater can carry pathogens, heavy metals and agricultural chemicals into the food chain. Consumption of contaminated rice, wheat or vegetables could lead to gastrointestinal infections and long‑term health issues for the local population.
