Assistant professor Dr. Gunjan Goswami has been suspended by authorities following the deaths of mother Kalpana Mishra and her newborn at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, with a magistrate‑level inquiry still underway.

The Madhya Pradesh health department has suspended Dr. Gunjan Goswami, an assistant professor at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, in connection with the death of postpartum patient Kalpana Mishra and her newborn.

The suspension comes 43 days after the earlier deaths of Kalpana Mishra and her infant, an incident that already prompted disciplinary action against several doctors, nursing officials and administrators at the same facility.

A magistrate‑level inquiry has been ordered to investigate possible negligence, and earlier probes resulted in sanctions against other medical staff.

Health officials said the suspension is a precautionary measure pending the inquiry’s findings, and the hospital administration is cooperating with investigators.
