Thousands of devotees gathered from 4 a.m. at Udaipur’s historic Mahalakshmi Temple on Diwali, where the deity was dressed in a special gold‑silver ensemble worth about ₹8 lakh. Former royal Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar attended the ceremony with his family.

Udaipur’s Mahalakshmi Temple, a 451‑year‑old heritage site, became a focal point of Diwali celebrations early on the festival morning. From 4 a.m., a dense crowd of devotees streamed in, eager to offer prayers at the historic shrine.

The temple’s main deity was clothed in an elaborate gold‑and‑silver costume valued at roughly ₹8 lakh, a rare and costly adornment reserved for special occasions. The ornate outfit featured intricate embroidery and traditional motifs, highlighting the cultural importance of the festival.

Among the attendees was former royal Lakshyaraj Singh of the erstwhile Mewar dynasty, who visited the temple with his family. Their presence underscored the event’s significance for both the local community and the region’s cultural heritage.

The atmosphere was charged with devotion, chants and the glow of oil lamps, as worshippers participated in rituals that marked the beginning of the five‑day Diwali festivities in Udaipur.
