Across India, Diwali 2026 saw massive diyas illuminating Ayodhya while Goa staged its traditional fiery Narkasur performances.

Ayodhya, the historic city in Uttar Pradesh, became a glowing canvas on the night of Diwali 2026 as thousands of oil lamps were lit along its ghats and streets, creating a continuous sea of light that stretched for kilometres. Residents and visitors alike participated in the ritual, placing diyas on doorsteps, temples and riverbanks, a visual tribute to the festival’s theme of triumph of light over darkness.

In the coastal state of Goa, the celebration took a distinctive turn with the fiery Narkasur performances that are a hallmark of the region’s Diwali customs. Dressed in elaborate costumes and wielding flaming torches, performers reenacted mythic battles, drawing crowds to beaches and public squares where the spectacle blended devotion with dramatic flair.

Both events underscored the regional diversity of Diwali observances while reflecting a common national mood of optimism and communal harmony. Authorities reported orderly gatherings and heightened security measures, ensuring that the festivities proceeded safely across the country.

Market activity surged as retailers stocked sweets, fireworks and decorative items, and social media platforms buzzed with images of the illuminated streets and the blazing Narkasur shows, highlighting the festival’s cultural and economic significance this year.
