Dhubri Eviction Sparks Nationwide Protest in Delhi

The government of Assam announced the eviction of several slum dwellers in Dhubri on Monday, citing land development plans. The demolition, which began early in the morning, displaced dozens of families without prior notice. In response, activists from across the country converged on Delhi, staging a massive protest outside the Parliament House on Tuesday. Protesters demanded a halt to the eviction, compensation for the displaced and a transparent review of the land acquisition process. The Assam Home Minister has yet to issue a formal statement, while local residents are calling for legal intervention to protect their homes.
