Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has warned that more than 200 taluks in Karnataka could be declared drought-hit as water levels continue to fall.
In a statement reported by Mid‑Day, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara cautioned that over 200 taluks across Karnataka may soon be declared drought‑hit as water reserves dwindle.
The warning comes amid a prolonged period of below‑average rainfall that has left many districts struggling to meet agricultural and domestic water needs.
A drought declaration would trigger a range of relief measures, including the allocation of emergency water supplies and the activation of state‑run irrigation schemes.
The government has said it will closely monitor water levels and issue advisories to affected communities as the situation develops.
