A demolition operation in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh neighbourhood has torn down the Madina Mosque and several residential units to make way for a new road project, officials said.
The demolition drive carried out in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh neighbourhood has resulted in the complete removal of the Madina Mosque along with a number of houses. Municipal authorities say the clearance is part of a road‑expansion scheme intended to improve traffic flow in the area.
According to the officials overseeing the project, the road work requires widening the existing thoroughfare, and the structures in the demolition zone were identified as obstacles. The Madina Mosque, a local place of worship, and adjacent residential units were therefore slated for demolition.
The operation was executed using heavy machinery, and the structures were reduced to rubble within a short span. While the authorities have not released a detailed timeline, they indicated that construction on the new road segment will commence once the site is cleared.
