The third runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has been reopened today, ending a seven‑month shutdown.

The third runway at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi was put back into service today, concluding a seven‑month period of inactivity. The runway, which had been out of operation since early last year, is now ready to handle commercial traffic once again.
Airport officials said the reopening will increase the airport's overall capacity and help alleviate congestion on the existing runways. Airlines are expected to resume using the runway for both take‑offs and landings, which should improve on‑time performance across the network.
The addition of the third runway is also likely to support the growing passenger demand in the capital region, especially as domestic and international traffic rebounds. The airport authority has urged airlines to adjust their schedules to make full use of the newly available runway.
Stakeholders anticipate that the operational runway will contribute to smoother flight operations and reduce delays during peak hours, reinforcing Delhi's position as a major aviation hub in South Asia.
