The capital's air quality index jumped above 300, classifying the air as 'very poor' despite a brief spell of rain that offered temporary relief.
Delhi's air quality deteriorated sharply on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing the 300 mark, a level that the monitoring agencies label as "very poor." The spike came shortly after a brief period of rain that had earlier provided a short‑lived improvement in visibility and particulate concentration.
The sudden rise in pollutants was reported by India Today, which cited data from the national air monitoring network. Experts warned that the high AQI poses health risks, especially for children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.
Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor activities and to use masks when venturing outside. The city continues to grapple with seasonal pollution spikes, and officials are monitoring the situation closely as the weather pattern shifts.
