With the air quality index soaring to 364, Delhi's Directorate of Education has ordered all government and private schools to run classes up to fifth grade in a hybrid format.
The National Capital Territory recorded an air quality index of 364 on Thursday, a level classified as "very poor" by monitoring agencies. The spike reflects a sharp deterioration in Delhi's atmospheric conditions, prompting health warnings across the city.
In response, the Delhi Directorate of Education issued an immediate directive for all government and private schools to conduct classes up to class five in a hybrid mode. The order applies to both primary sections of government-run institutions and the corresponding grades in private schools.
The hybrid arrangement will combine limited in‑person sessions with online teaching, allowing children to stay protected from hazardous pollutants while maintaining continuity of learning. Officials said the measure will be reviewed daily as air quality trends evolve.
