Delhi’s air quality index dropped to ‘Very Poor’ on Oct 23, 2026, prompting authorities to block a scheduled concert amid a dispute with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The Delhi Pollution Control Board recorded an AQI of 310 on October 23, 2026, classifying the city’s air quality as ‘Very Poor’ under the national air monitoring standards. Health officials issued advisories urging residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities and wear masks.
Simultaneously, a disagreement between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and event organizers over compliance with crowd‑control and noise‑restriction norms escalated, leading the corporation to deny permission for a high‑profile concert slated for the evening at a downtown venue.
The combined impact of deteriorating air quality and the administrative standoff resulted in the concert’s cancellation, with organizers citing safety and public‑health concerns. Authorities continue to monitor pollutant levels and have promised stricter enforcement of emission controls in the coming days.
