On the first day of its new entry restriction, Delhi authorities sent back 1,539 vehicles, mainly from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, warning owners of fines for non‑compliance.

Delhi's traffic enforcement agency began enforcing a fresh entry restriction on vehicles registered outside the National Capital Territory. On the inaugural day, officials turned back 1,539 cars, trucks and other motorised vehicles attempting to enter the city.

The bulk of the turned‑back vehicles were identified as being registered in the neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, which are subject to the new rule. Drivers whose vehicles were denied entry were informed that they could face monetary penalties if they attempt to re‑enter without proper clearance.

The restriction, announced earlier this month, aims to curb congestion and pollution in the capital. Authorities have advised owners of out‑of‑state vehicles to check the official portal for eligibility and to be prepared for possible fines as stipulated under Delhi's traffic regulations.

Enforcement checkpoints have been set up at major entry points, and traffic police are equipped to issue on‑spot notices. The government has not disclosed the exact fine amount, stating it will be applied as per existing traffic law provisions.
