Delhi Protest: CJP Leaders' Judicial Custody Extended by Two Days

A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of two Confederation of Joint Parties (CJP) leaders by two days after their arrest during a protest.

A Delhi court on Tuesday ordered that the judicial custody of two leaders of the Confederation of Joint Parties (CJP) be prolonged by an additional two days. The leaders were taken into custody after they participated in a protest that turned confrontational earlier this week.

The magistrate cited the need to complete further investigations and to ensure the safety of witnesses before the case proceeds to trial. Both leaders will remain in custody until the end of the extension period, after which they may apply for bail.

Legal experts note that extending judicial custody is a routine measure in cases where the investigation is ongoing and there are concerns about potential tampering with evidence. The court has scheduled a hearing for the next week to review the status of the case.

The CJP, a coalition of several regional parties, has condemned the arrest as politically motivated and has called for a larger demonstration in Delhi. Authorities, however, maintain that the protest violated public order provisions, prompting the arrests.

The situation remains under close watch as the extended custody period draws to a close, and the court will decide whether to keep the leaders detained or release them on bail.
