After discussions with authorities, private hospital owners in Delhi have postponed their planned 1,000‑ambulance blockade, while confirming they will halt Ayushman admissions from Oct 8 and have received payment assurances.
Private hospital operators in Delhi had announced a large‑scale protest involving 1,000 ambulances to press the government over pending payments and policy issues. The demonstration was scheduled to begin after October 8, coinciding with the hospitals' plan to stop admitting patients under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Following a series of meetings between the hospital representatives and officials from the health ministry and Delhi administration, the operators agreed to suspend the blockade for the time being. Government sources said the talks addressed the immediate concerns of the private sector and led to a verbal assurance that outstanding dues would be cleared promptly.
The hospitals also reiterated their intention to halt admissions of Ayushman beneficiaries from October 8 as a leverage measure, but they indicated that the decision would be reviewed in light of the new payment commitments. The postponement of the ambulance protest is expected to ease traffic disruptions in the capital and reduce pressure on emergency services.
Stakeholders from both sides emphasized that the resolution is provisional and that further dialogue will continue to ensure smooth functioning of the Ayushman scheme and the financial stability of private hospitals.
