Delhi Police to Shut Entry/Exit Gates at 57 Metro Stations Amid Protest

Delhi police have proposed to block the entry and exit points of 57 metro stations from 9 pm tonight until tomorrow, citing ongoing protests.

The Delhi Police issued a notice late on Tuesday indicating that the entry and exit gates of 57 Delhi Metro stations will be closed from 9 pm tonight until the following day. The measure is being taken in response to a protest that began earlier in the evening, which authorities say could disrupt commuter flow and public safety.
The list of affected stations, released by the police, includes major interchange points across the Red, Yellow, Blue and Pink lines, though the exact sequence was not disclosed in the brief. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes, including nearby bus services and other metro stations that remain operational.
Police officials emphasized that the closure is temporary and will be lifted once the protest disperses and normal conditions are restored. They also warned that any attempts to force entry into the closed stations could result in legal action.
The decision comes as city officials grapple with balancing the right to protest against the need to maintain essential public transport services for millions of daily riders. No injuries or arrests have been reported so far in connection with the demonstration.
