Delhi Police File FIR Over AI‑Morphed Photos, Launch Probe

The Delhi Police have lodged an FIR after receiving complaints about AI‑generated manipulated photographs and have opened a cyber‑crime investigation to trace the source.
Delhi Police on receiving multiple complaints have registered a First Information Report after digitally altered photographs, created using artificial‑intelligence tools, began circulating online.
The images, which allegedly placed individuals in compromising or defamatory contexts, prompted officials to invoke provisions of the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, citing possible offenses such as publishing obscene material and defamation.
A specialised cyber‑crime cell has been tasked with identifying the creator, the platform used for dissemination, and any networks involved. Investigators have appealed to the public to preserve original files, screenshots or metadata that could aid the probe.
No arrests have been made so far, and the police warned that anyone found responsible could face stringent penalties under existing cyber‑law provisions.
