A Delhi‑based non‑governmental organisation recently organised a consultation bringing together child psychologists, digital‑safety experts, educators, parents and representatives from law‑enforcement agencies. The forum focused on emerging online harms that Indian children face, including cyber‑bullying, exposure to extremist or pornographic material, online grooming and misinformation.
Participants highlighted the rapid increase in internet usage among school‑age children and the corresponding rise in incidents of digital abuse. They shared case studies, discussed gaps in current protective measures and emphasized the need for age‑appropriate digital literacy programmes.
The consultation concluded with a set of recommendations urging the government to tighten regulatory oversight of social media platforms, schools to integrate online‑safety curricula, and NGOs to expand awareness campaigns targeting parents and children alike.
