The air‑quality index in Delhi‑NCR has been classified as ‘Very Poor’, prompting authorities to apply GRAP Stage‑2 rules while keeping schools open with precautions.

The Central Pollution Control Board’s latest reading placed the Delhi‑NCR air‑quality index in the ‘Very Poor’ category, signalling hazardous levels of particulate matter and other pollutants across the capital region. The alert follows a sharp rise in pollutants over the past 24 hours, prompting health officials to issue city‑wide warnings.

Under the Government of India’s Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the region has entered Stage 2, which typically calls for restrictions on outdoor activities and the suspension of certain public services. However, the education department has decided that schools will remain operational, provided they implement recommended safety measures such as limiting outdoor play, ensuring proper ventilation, and advising children to wear masks when necessary.

Health experts have urged residents, especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, to limit exposure, stay indoors during peak pollution hours, and use air‑purifiers where possible. The authorities will continue to monitor the AQI and may adjust the GRAP response if conditions deteriorate further.
