New Delhi – The government think‑tank NITI Aayog released its 2025 index measuring Indian states’ progress toward electric‑mobility transition. Delhi emerged as the clear leader, followed by Maharashtra in second place and Karnataka in third.
The index evaluates a range of parameters, including the number of electric vehicles on the road, the density of public charging stations, state‑level policy incentives, and investment in related infrastructure. Delhi’s high ranking reflects its aggressive rollout of charging networks and supportive policy framework.
Maharashtra and Karnataka, both home to major automotive hubs, secured the next two spots thanks to expanding EV manufacturing capacities and growing public‑charging footprints. The ranking underscores the accelerating shift toward greener transport in India’s most urbanised regions.
