The Delhi High Court ruled that wholesale copying of news videos is not fair dealing and granted a permanent injunction to ANI against RSY News.

The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a permanent injunction in favour of the Asian News International (ANI), restraining RSY News from reproducing ANI's video footage. The bench held that copying news videos on a wholesale basis does not qualify as "fair dealing" under Indian copyright law.

ANI had approached the court alleging that RSY News repeatedly uploaded its video clips without permission, thereby infringing its intellectual property rights. The court examined the evidence, including timestamps and metadata, which showed systematic duplication of ANI's content.

The judgment underscores the judiciary's stance on protecting media houses' copyrights and serves as a warning to other outlets that rely on unauthorised video material. RSY News was directed to remove the infringing material from its platforms and to refrain from future violations, with non‑compliance attracting contempt proceedings.
