The Delhi High Court Bar has raised objections to the recently introduced e‑challan scheme, urging the judiciary to ensure adequate safeguards for the public.

The bar association of the Delhi High Court has formally expressed concerns over the rollout of a new electronic challan system intended to digitise traffic and other statutory fines. In a petition filed with the court, senior advocates highlighted potential vulnerabilities that could affect ordinary citizens, including data privacy lapses and limited avenues for contesting erroneous notices.

The lawyers argued that without clear procedural safeguards, the automated platform may lead to wrongful penalties, especially for those lacking digital literacy. They urged the court to direct the implementing authority to incorporate transparent grievance redressal mechanisms, real‑time verification of violations, and an accessible appeal process.

The High Court is expected to hear the matter in the coming weeks, with the bar seeking a balanced approach that leverages technology while protecting citizens' legal rights.
