The Delhi Election Commission has verified that 1.28 million voters flagged in the state are legitimate, countering earlier allegations of irregularities.

The Delhi Election Commission (DEC) announced today that it has confirmed the authenticity of 1.28 million voters who were previously flagged during the last electoral audit. The flagged list, which had raised concerns about potential duplicate registrations and identity mismatches, was subjected to a comprehensive cross‑checking exercise involving biometric verification and document scrutiny.

The commission’s verification process involved matching voter details with the National Voter ID database, as well as conducting on‑ground checks in a sample of affected constituencies. According to the DEC, all flagged entries were found to be legitimate and no evidence of fraud was uncovered.

The confirmation comes after a wave of media reports and political commentary that suggested the flagged voters could be a sign of electoral malpractice. By clearing the names, the DEC aims to restore confidence among voters and parties ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

In a statement, the DEC spokesperson said, “Our mandate is to ensure a free and fair electoral process. The verification confirms that the flagged list was a result of administrative errors rather than deliberate manipulation.”
