The Delhi Transport Corporation’s drivers’ union began a strike on September 19, halting all regular bus operations and prompting commuters to seek alternative travel modes.

Delhi’s public transport system faced a sudden disruption on September 19 when the drivers’ union representing the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) launched a city‑wide strike. The industrial action brought all regular DTC bus services to a standstill, leaving thousands of daily commuters without their usual mode of travel.

With the bus network offline, passengers turned to the Delhi Metro, auto‑rickshaws and private taxis to navigate the capital’s congested streets. Traffic congestion intensified in key corridors as more vehicles flooded the roads, prompting concerns over longer travel times and increased pollution.

DTC officials confirmed that negotiations with the union are ongoing but did not provide a timeline for resumption of services. In the meantime, the transport department urged commuters to plan journeys in advance and consider alternative public‑transport options.
