Delhi Child Commission Reconstituted After Three Years, Holds Press Conference on Child Rights

The Delhi Child Commission has been re‑formed after a three‑year hiatus and convened a press briefing to outline its mandate on safeguarding children's rights.
The Delhi government announced the re‑formation of the Delhi Child Commission, marking its first meeting since the body was dissolved three years ago. Officials said the commission has been re‑appointed under the Delhi Child Welfare Act to monitor and promote the rights of children in the capital.
During a press conference held at the commission's office, the chairperson outlined the commission's immediate priorities, including reviewing existing child protection policies, addressing gaps in education and health services, and ensuring compliance with national child rights legislation.
The commission will consist of a chairperson and several members drawn from civil society, academia and the child welfare sector, all appointed by the Lieutenant Governor. It will submit its first report to the government within six months, detailing recommendations for improving child welfare programs across Delhi.
Stakeholders, including NGOs and child rights activists, welcomed the move, emphasizing that a functional commission is essential for coordinated action on issues such as child labor, abuse, and access to quality education.
