The Delhi government announced a plan to expand its healthcare infrastructure by adding new medical seats, constructing additional hospitals and recruiting staff.
The Delhi administration unveiled a comprehensive scheme aimed at strengthening the city’s health system. The initiative focuses on three key pillars: increasing the number of medical seats in colleges, building new hospitals, and hiring additional healthcare personnel.
Under the plan, several medical colleges will receive approval for extra seats, allowing more students to pursue doctor‑training programs each year. While exact figures were not disclosed, officials said the expansion will address the long‑standing shortage of qualified doctors in the capital.
The government also earmarked funds for the construction of new hospitals in underserved areas, complementing existing facilities. Alongside infrastructure development, a recruitment drive will bring in doctors, nurses, technicians and support staff to ensure the new and existing hospitals operate at full capacity.
Officials emphasized that the measures are part of a broader effort to improve public health outcomes and reduce patient load at overcrowded hospitals.
The rollout is expected to begin later this year, with periodic reviews to assess progress and impact on healthcare delivery in Delhi.
