From November 1, Delhi will enforce new vehicle restrictions, prohibiting non‑BS‑VI cars, diesel‑powered buses and trucks entering from other states.
Delhi’s traffic authority announced that, starting November 1, any vehicle that does not meet the BS‑VI emission standard will be barred from entering the capital. The rule also targets diesel‑run city buses and trucks that are registered outside Delhi, aiming to curb pollution ahead of the winter season.
The curbs cover private cars, commercial vans and heavy‑duty vehicles lacking BS‑VI certification. Outstation trucks, even if they meet the standard, will be restricted unless they have a special permit for essential goods.
Officials said the move is part of a broader clean‑air strategy and will be enforced through roadside checks and automated number‑plate recognition. Violators could face fines or vehicle impoundment.
Transport unions have warned of potential disruptions to logistics, but the government maintains that the health benefits outweigh short‑term inconvenience.
The new policy will be reviewed periodically to assess its impact on air quality and traffic flow in the National Capital Region.
