Delhi's air quality has deteriorated to a very poor level with an AQI of 312, raising health concerns ahead of the Diwali celebrations.
Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) climbed to 312 on Monday, placing the city in the "Very Poor" category as per the Central Pollution Control Board's scale. The spike was recorded during the early morning hours, with particulate matter (PM2.5) levels exceeding 350 micrograms per cubic meter.
Health officials warned that prolonged exposure to such high pollution can aggravate respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. Residents were advised to limit outdoor activities, wear N95 masks, and keep windows closed.
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has urged local authorities to enforce stricter emission controls on vehicles and industrial sources. Several traffic restrictions have already been announced for the upcoming days.
Seasonal factors, including crop burning in neighboring states and stagnant weather conditions, are contributing to the worsening air quality. The government is monitoring the situation closely as Diwali approaches.
