All schools in Dehradun are on holiday today, July 21, following the Indian Meteorological Department's red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the region.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the Dehradun region on July 20, warning of extremely heavy rainfall that could affect the city and surrounding areas. In response, the Uttarakhand state education authorities announced that all schools in Dehradun would remain closed on July 21 to ensure student safety.
The decision comes after the IMD forecasted rainfall amounts that could exceed 200 mm in a 24‑hour period, raising concerns about flooding and road closures. Parents were advised to keep children indoors and stay updated through local news and official channels.
Officials stated that the closure would remain in effect until the weather conditions improve and a safe environment is confirmed. The education department will monitor the situation closely and reopen schools once the red alert is lifted.
Students and teachers are encouraged to use the holiday for rest and to stay informed about any further updates from the IMD and local authorities.
