The Dehradun police have begun systematic night-time checks aimed at preventing criminal activities across the city.
Dehradun police announced a city‑wide night patrol programme designed to deter criminal activity after a rise in reported incidents. The operation, which began this week, involves officers conducting checks in residential colonies, market areas and other identified hotspots after sunset.
Patrol teams are stopping vehicles, verifying identities and questioning individuals suspected of illegal conduct, while also looking for unattended weapons or illicit substances. The police have emphasized that the checks are preventive and not intended to target any particular community.
A police spokesperson said the night checks form part of a broader strategy to strengthen law and order in the capital of Uttarakhand. While no arrests have been reported so far, officials expect the visible presence of uniformed officers to discourage potential offenders.
Local residents have expressed mixed reactions; some welcome the added security, whereas others worry about inconvenience and privacy. The department said it will monitor the impact of the patrols and adjust the approach based on feedback and crime data.
