A deep depression is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department to issue a heavy rain alert for the coastal and western parts of West Bengal.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the development of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days. The system is expected to intensify, drawing moisture from the warm waters and potentially leading to significant rainfall.

In response, the IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for the coastal and western regions of West Bengal. The alert covers districts along the Bay of Bengal coast, including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and the western districts of Nadia and Murshidabad.

Meteorologists predict rainfall amounts ranging from 150 to 250 millimetres in some areas, with the possibility of localized flooding and landslides in hilly terrains. Authorities are advised to prepare emergency services and ensure that drainage systems are cleared.

Residents in the affected districts are urged to stay updated through local radio and television broadcasts, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure loose outdoor items. The IMD will continue to monitor the system and update the alert status as necessary.
