Heavy monsoon rains have caused floods in Nepal, killing 392 people and leaving 1,468 missing, including 288 Indian nationals.

Heavy monsoon downpours across central Nepal have triggered flash floods and landslides, pushing the death toll to 392 as of the latest official count. Rescue teams from the Nepalese army and civil defence are combing through inundated villages, but 1,468 individuals remain unaccounted for.

Among the missing are 288 Indian citizens, many of whom were traveling or working in the border districts when the waters surged. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has opened a helpline and is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to locate and assist the stranded nationals.

Local officials have declared a state of emergency in the hardest‑hit districts, mobilising additional relief supplies, temporary shelters and medical aid. International aid agencies are also monitoring the situation, awaiting formal requests for assistance as the floodwaters continue to recede.

The disaster underscores the vulnerability of the Himalayan region to extreme weather events, prompting calls for improved early‑warning systems and cross‑border disaster management protocols.
