Veteran actor Dayanand Shetty alleges that the long‑running crime series CID was taken off air because of internal power struggles, and reveals that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar intervened on the team’s behalf.
Actor Dayanand Shetty, popularly known as Daya from the hit TV series CID, told media that the show’s abrupt removal from the broadcast schedule was not due to ratings but stemmed from internal politics within the production house and the channel. The crime drama, which ran for more than two decades, concluded its final episode earlier this month, leaving fans across the country surprised.
Shetty said that disagreements among senior executives over creative control and budget allocations created a hostile environment, ultimately prompting the decision to pull the series. He emphasized that the actors and crew were kept in the dark about the move until the last moment, which he described as “unprofessional”.
In a surprising revelation, Shetty recounted that legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar had personally called the producers to advocate for the show’s continuation, praising its contribution to Indian television. Despite her intervention, the internal disputes persisted, and the series was discontinued.
