Daryl Mitchell likens Wellington cricket pitch to a trampoline

Daryl Mitchell, a top‑order batsman for New Zealand, said the Wellington cricket ground feels like a trampoline, drawing attention to its unusually high bounce.
The remark followed his recent innings in the domestic season, where the Basin Reserve surface produced extra pace and lift, affecting both batsmen and bowlers.
Mitchell’s comment adds to the ongoing debate among players and coaches about pitch preparation in New Zealand, with calls for greater consistency to balance batting and bowling.
He noted that while the bounce can aid aggressive stroke‑play, it also demands precise timing and footwork from the batsman.
